Since participating in the Techwomen programme in 2015; I always look forward to the monthly newsletter from Katie Zee, the programme Manager; the newsletter served as a motivation and inspiration for me as it would always itemize the various achievements of fellows from all around the world and how we are each making a difference in our various fields. I eargerly opened the newsletter on March 14th, 2025 but this time around, it was different.
I received the sad news which indicated that the programme would be discontinued as the staff were already furloughed.
Based on the exposure to more best practices in software development which I had during the programme, Moat Academy was born ; a coding bootcamp where we raise software developers who are taught with globally accepted best practices and secure coding principles in creating software applications.
In the past 8 years of running the Academy; we have been able to train hundreds of software developers who today are working both within Nigeria and abroad; I have also been able to serve as role models to many who today are enjoying accelerated careers in the Software Development field and are also contributing to the global village:
In 2022, when Moat Academy turned 6, we celebrated 6 alumni each from each of our year of existence (we tagged the award 6for6 available on https://moatacademy.com/pages/awards )
Anytime, I receive the news of any of our alumni being recognized for their work in the software development field; I can not but trace their achievements to that ONE TECHWOMEN PARTICIPATION IN SILICON VALLEY in 2015.
For a programme that has made such impacts; It will be my utmost joy to see the Techwomen programme continues; and just as I shared in this article I wrote in 2015 (https://www.techwomen.org/2015-program/professional-mentorship-as-an-accelerator-to-career-development ) I would be happy to see more governments join the US government in supporting such a wonderful cause like the Techwomen programme.
